FUE Hair Transplant Before and After

FUE — follicular unit extraction — describes how grafts are harvested. Understanding the technique helps you read before-and-after photographs without over-reading them.

What FUE means for before-and-after photos

With FUE, individual follicular units are taken from the donor area rather than removed as a strip. Donor-area photographs therefore look different from strip-based techniques, which is often visible in comparison sets that include the back of the head.

Recipient-area photographs are not inherently different because of the harvesting technique. What the front of the head looks like depends far more on the plan, the area treated and the individual.

Comparing FUE photo sets fairly

Photo sets labelled FUE vary widely. Graft numbers, treated areas and time intervals are not standardised across the images you find online, so like-for-like comparison is rarely possible.

  • Check which area was treated, not just the technique
  • Check the time interval between photos
  • Be cautious with images that carry no context at all

Explore the look, then talk to a professional

If you want to see an illustrative version of a fuller-looking hairline on your own photo, the simulator can do that. It does not select a technique, count grafts or recommend treatment.
